Originally from Newfoundland & Labrador, Bethana moved to Halifax in the mid 90’s to study costume design at Dalhousie University where she graduated with an Advanced diploma in Costume Studies. Her love of the craft brought her to the Nova Scotia Collage of Art and Design where she studied textiles and art history.

Bethana started in theatre where she worked for five years on such challenging productions as Cats, Beauty and the Beast, The Rocky Horror Picture show and Dangerous Liaisons.

Driven to follow her passion, Bethana soon turned her attention to the world of film. In 2017 Bethana received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for her costume design on the critically acclaimed feature film “Weirdos” – A period film on a small budget that debuted at TIFF.

Other Costume Design credits include Snowed Inn Christmas for the Lifetime Network and Canada’s 150 with Jonathan Torrens for CBC.

Bethana’s work is deeply rooted in the importance of creating authentic characters that both the viewer and actor can identify and connect with. She uses her love and knowledge of costumes throughout the ages to create rich, layered costume stories. When collaborating on new projects, Bethana is driven by the desire to represent her film community and often invites local artisans into her process.
